The Founding of Criterion
Criterion Inc. was founded on the simplicity of the American Dream. The promise that hard work and good customer service pays off and endures the test of time.
In 1979 James Kaufman was approached by a person whom he was working for and asked if he could reweave a high-end piece of lawn furniture for her. Knowing that his mother had taught him these very skills as a child he said yes. Wanting to do the job properly he went downtown to visit the store that sold this furniture and requested the proper material to complete the job. The store manager took notice and told the young Mr. Kaufman ”if you can actually do that kind of weave successfully we will have plenty of work for you”. Well let’s just say the job was completed, and everyone was impressed with the work. There was a need, James had the skills, it was 1980 and Criterion was born.
In the years to follow, competition would come and go but Criterion Inc. remains an industry leader recognized for its unwavering attention to detail, superior customer service and dedication to innovation.
